Tribal tattoos can Express Many Things for Different People

We now see people from all ethnic backgrounds wearing tattoos from many cultures, whether Native American, African, Maori, Celtic as well as many others.

What are the reasons that these symbols are suddenly so popular? For some people, it can be a way to get in touch with their own background. However, for the majority it’s a form of self-expression that many of us simply seem to resonate with. In one article on tribal tattoos, the author suggests it can be a way to “mine the collective unconscious.”

Of course, it’s common for someone to walk into a tattoo parlor and think that a particular design looks cool and choose it, without having any deeper reason. There is nothing wrong with choosing a tattoo in this way. It’s similar to the way people choose any form of art, such as a painting for the living room. You don’t have to be an expert on art to know how a painting makes you feel. It’s even more so with a tattoo, which is a very intimate form of art that you actually wear on your body!
Tribal tattoos are probably more popular today simply because our global culture allows us to find out more about what’s out there. We can go online and see what tattoos from different parts of the world look like. It’s similar to why people are getting to like a wider variety of foods. Twenty years ago, you didn’t see many Thai or Sushi restaurants in the U.S. Today they are very common. The more we find out about other cultures, the more we can choose their foods, fashions or tattoo designs!
